Director Taylor Hackford couldn’t resist answering one final question during a recent roundtable discussion promoting his new film, Love Ranch. A PR assistant signaled in futile desperation to wrap it up, but Hackford continued discussing the factors behind his decision to leave a line that Joe Pesci adlibbed in the film to the filmmaker’s wife, Helen Mirren, during a heated spousal exchange: “Who do you think you are, the Queen of England?”
A chic and dainty woman then entered the room and approached the director with a cup of tea. It’s Dame Mirren herself, who in fact won an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of the Queen of England in The Queen and was now doing her best to assist in moving her husband along.
“Tea, Mr. Hackford,” she said, sweetly.
“Thank you, baby,” he replied, getting the hint, wrapping up his thought then relinquishing the hot seat to his wife.
